PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY OF BOLIVIA
Size and Location
Bolivia is one of two countries in South Amreica that are landlocked. The aproximate size of Bolivia is 424,200 miles, roughly three times the size of Montana. It is bordered by Paraguay, Argentina,Chile, Peru, and Brazil.
Climate
The climate of Bolivia is widely ranged. In the section of the Andes, it is mostly dry and arid. In the lower regions of the forests, however, the air is typically humid and muggy.
Natural Resources
The natural resources found in Bolivia are abundant. These include tin, petroleum, zinc, tungsten, antimony, silver, iron, lead, gold, and timber. These are not listed in any order what-so-ever.
Natural Hazards
The most hazardous part of Bolivia is near the volcanic activity in the Andes Mountains. The last time the volcano erupted was in 1995.
Flora and Fauna
- In Bolivia, there are flora representative of all of the climatic zones.
- There are over 2,000 different types of hardwood and many different plant types like ferns, vanilla, sasparilla and saffron, which grow in the tropical regions of Bolivia, as well as native plants like palms, sweet potatoes, manioc, and peanuts.
- The fauna of the forrest include many different types of birds like Toucans, Jabirus, and Macaws.
- The main hunter in the Bolivian part of the rainforest is the jaguar.
- The reptiles of the rainforest include many different variations of the Iguana and smaller lizards.
- A type of coarse grass, called ichu, grows on the plateau region above 10,000 ft.
- The altiplano also has a native fauna called the Llama, very well known for their carrying capabilities, as well as for their spitting capabilities.
